HIV Exposure in Malawi

Healthcare workers in Africa in general have a higher incidence of HIV exposure, especially related to needlesticks. A lot were contributed to poor training, poor supplies, and the prevalence of recapping needles. They lack proper PPE, high patient to provider ratios, and lack of safety equipment.

They need to develop better education, and legislature to protect healthcare workers. They need to increase the work force through education, provide safety equipment, and better facilities. Also, better post exposure prophylaxis would lower the incident of the healthcare providers developing the exposed disease.
